University life to a career: How to introduce…

Excitement, motivation, and inspiration were all feelings that I was filled with when I started my first professional role in the industry after graduating university. I felt so lucky to begin my role as a Marketing Executive at Quest the same month I graduated! However, all this excitement blinded me from how much the transition of working part-time on weekends alongside university, to now working full – time would affect me.

Time fly’s by when you’re having fun

Change is something that I knew that I feared but I didn’t see it as a struggle as I started my new role at Quest, part – time with ease. I learnt the ropes at a pace that enabled me to feel relaxed while still meeting my deadlines. Two months flew by until we reached September where I had quite a large event that I had waited all my life for…

What country is on your bucket list?

I was going to Australia!! I felt lucky as I was able to save up some of my university money and money from my role in retail to go to a country on my bucket list. In the start of September, I jetted off to Australia for 2 weeks and had the time of my life. Coming back, I knew I had something to look forward to as I was going to start full – time in my role after successfully completing 2 months at Quest. This was my first full – time role so I was eager to start this new chapter of my life and see what it had in store for me.

Change Begins

I was back in the UK in no time and ready to begin my new full – time role. Transitioning from part – time to full – time in the first hand was a bit of a struggle as I suddenly realised my love for fitness and walks outdoors would have to now be 2nd on my priority list which really scared me as I always found that this helped my mental health. However, I knew that this would be hard to start with and so I fought through and had many nights where I struggled with my sleep routine and horrendous traffic, but I still showed up every day and gave my 100%.

Plucking up the courage

Realisation finally hit me that I wasn’t coping with this change well and my body went into panic mode where I had a few different episodes with my anxiety. I decided to pluck up the courage and speak to Sarah about this issue. She was genuinely so understanding and put different options in place to help me.

The truth is that change is a hard thing for all employees, but I think communication really helped me. I am now feeling a lot better, having a good night’s sleep, and waking up at 6 am to hit the gym, missing traffic, making sure I go on a walk on my lunch break and I’m even closer to my team.
