Employers, have you thought about

how you can support your Muslim employees at work throughout Ramadan? Social media might give you a few tips, but you need to think about how you can show understanding and foster a respectful workplace.

Ramadan is approaching fast and begins on the evening of the 10th of March - the 9th of April. Find out everything you need to know here...

How can you show understanding and foster a respectful workplace?

1)
Flexible Working Hours: Recognise that fasting from dawn until dusk can be physically and mentally challenging. Offering flexible working hours allows Muslim employees to break their fast at the end of the day for iftar with family or attend evening prayers. By accommodating their needs, you will help them manage their energy levels and maintain productivity.

2) Quiet Space for Prayer: Many Muslims take breaks during the day to pray. Providing a designated quiet space where employees can pray in peace is essential. Let’s ensure our workplaces are inclusive and respectful of religious practices.

3) Mindful Scheduling: Avoid scheduling meetings when Muslim employees are breaking their fast or attending evening prayers. Being considerate of their religious observance demonstrates empathy and respect.

4) Education and Awareness: Educate your workforce about Ramadan and its significance for Muslims. Awareness fosters understanding and empathy among your team. Let’s celebrate diversity and promote a culture of inclusivity.

5) Celebrate Diversity: Recognise Ramadan by hosting events or activities that show support for your Muslim employees. A simple “Ramadan Mubarak” goes a long way in making them feel valued and respected by saying have a ‘blessed Ramadan.’ You can also wish your employees a generous Ramadan by saying, "Ramadan Kareem."
