Why do so many people find it so difficult to make a success of the transition from education into a working environment?

In education we learn and then we are tested, but in the world of work it's the other way round: we are tested and when we make mistakes that's hopefully when we learn.

It's certainly true when we are seeking work. When we attend an interview and fail, that's when we need to learn, but how many of us formally question ourselves in a structured manner about how we performed, so that we can truly learn not to make the same mistakes next time?

Your interview performance will improve dramatically if you take yourself through a formal debrief after each interview you attend.
