On 6 March 2026, the Home Office published a comprehensive overhaul of the Workers and Temporary Workers sponsor guidance, and this is no routine update. The changes, effective immediately, introduce new compliance duties, redefine core concepts like "eligible role," and fundamentally shift the evidentiary threshold at which the Home Office can take enforcement action against sponsors.

Among the key changes: a new standalone glossary centralising key definitions, expanded duties around worker rights and employment law compliance (with evidence requirements), and a critical shift in enforcement language, from "failed" to "reasonably suspect." The latter represents a materially lower bar for suspension or revocation of your licence.

Sponsors now face an express obligation to read and maintain familiarity with all five guidance documents and the new glossary. They must demonstrate that sponsored workers understand their employment rights. And they must ensure that all sponsored roles meet a newly defined four-part "eligible role" test.
