Most of us tend to treat other people the way we would prefer to be treated ourselves.
That's fine if we want to establish a relationship with someone, because it will tell them whether our values are similar to theirs: and if they are, it will put in place the foundations for a trusting relationship, be it a business, personal, social or professional one.
However, in order to develop the relationship further we need to treat the other person the way they want to be treated and not the way we want to be treated - and to do that, we need to develop a high emotional intelligence.
We can't change our IQ but it is certainly possible to improve our EQ if we use an appropriate tool.
